A Prophet of the Lord in the Business Arena: Hearing God’s Voice and Leading with Kingdom Insight

As believers in Christ, we are called to embrace our identity as prophets, priests, and kings—each role playing a vital part in advancing God’s Kingdom on earth. While much has been written about the priestly and kingly aspects of our calling, today we’ll focus on what it means to be a prophet of the Lord in the business arena.

In the Old Testament, prophets were often seen as mouthpieces for God—conveying His messages, warning His people, and guiding them toward righteous living. Prophets could bring revelation, direction, and correction from God to His people. However, in the New Covenant, every believer is called to hear God’s voice and be a conduit of His truth, wisdom, and guidance. A prophet in the business world today is not just a person who speaks about the future, but someone who discerns the heart and mind of God for their work, their decisions, and their relationships. They lead with Kingdom insight, speak truth with boldness, and influence the marketplace with the wisdom of God.

Hears and Speaks God’s Voice

The primary characteristic of a prophet, both in the Old and New Testaments, is the ability to hear from God. A true prophet listens intently to God’s voice and speaks what He has revealed. In business, this means that a prophet is someone who seeks God’s guidance before making decisions, whether they are about business strategies, financial investments, employee matters, or community impact.

Biblical Foundation:

  • John 10:27: “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
  • Amos 3:7: “Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.”

A prophet in the business world recognizes that God speaks into every area of life, including the marketplace. Whether through Scripture, prayer, or personal revelation, the prophet listens for God’s leading in business decisions.

Application in Business: A business leader who walks in the prophetic gift would seek God’s voice when making decisions about the direction of the company. They would pray and ask God for wisdom when faced with complex challenges, trusting that He will reveal His heart and mind. This includes seeking God for everything from strategic direction to employee well-being and market trends. A prophetic business leader does not act on their own understanding alone but listens for God’s guidance and moves in obedience to His leading.

Brings Truth and Correction

A prophet is also called to speak truth, sometimes even when it is uncomfortable or unpopular. In the business arena, this means speaking God’s truth into situations where ethical lines may be blurred or where injustice exists. A prophet will stand against corruption, greed, and unethical practices, calling others to righteousness.

Biblical Foundation:

  • Jeremiah 23:28: “Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let the one who has My word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain? declares the Lord.”
  • Proverbs 27:5: “Better is open rebuke than hidden love.”

Just as prophets in Scripture confronted the injustices of their time, a modern-day prophet in business is unafraid to confront wrongdoing. Whether it’s calling out dishonesty in contracts, exploitation of workers, or any other unethical practice, a prophet in the business world is committed to seeing truth upheld, no matter the cost.

Application in Business: A prophetic business leader doesn’t shy away from speaking truth to power. They challenge corrupt systems, unethical practices, or leadership that strays from godly principles. For example, if a business leader discovers practices of dishonesty or exploitation, a prophet would have the courage to call for reform, ensuring that the company’s practices align with biblical justice and integrity. Their voice will be bold in declaring God’s will for righteousness in the marketplace, even when it goes against the status quo.

Brings Vision and Direction

Prophets are not only called to speak correction but also to bring vision and direction from God. In the business arena, a prophet of the Lord is someone who discerns what God wants to do next and leads their company or organization into that future.

Biblical Foundation:

  • Habakkuk 2:2-3: “Then the Lord replied: ‘Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.’”
  • Proverbs 29:18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

A prophetic leader in business is someone who seeks God for vision—not just for short-term goals but for long-term plans that align with God’s purposes. They seek to understand the broader picture of how their company can impact the world for God’s Kingdom, moving with insight into future opportunities or challenges. This vision may also extend beyond the company itself to society, culture, and the Kingdom at large.

Application in Business: A prophetic business leader doesn’t simply follow trends but seeks God’s vision for their company’s future. They might pray for direction when considering new markets, products, or services. They could also be led by the Holy Spirit to identify emerging trends that align with Kingdom purposes, like starting socially responsible ventures or creating opportunities for social justice in their industry. A prophet of the Lord in business brings innovation, anticipating what God wants to do next and leading the organization into that space.

Serves the People with Compassion

A prophet of the Lord is also called to serve others with compassion and a heart for the well-being of the people they lead. This means that a prophetic business leader is not just concerned with profits but is deeply invested in the flourishing of employees, customers, and even the broader community.

Biblical Foundation:

  • Micah 6:8: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
  • Matthew 25:40: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

A prophetic business leader understands that business is about people, and the company exists not just for financial gain but to serve others. Whether it’s through creating jobs, providing ethical products, or engaging in community service, the prophet leads their business with a heart for compassion and justice.

Application in Business: A prophet of the Lord in business would ensure that their company cares for its employees, customers, and the community in a way that reflects Christ’s love. This may mean offering fair wages, creating a culture of kindness, and going beyond mere profit-making to support charitable initiatives. For instance, a prophetic business leader might start programs to give back to the community, prioritize environmentally sustainable practices, or create opportunities for employees to volunteer and make a difference.

Builds with Kingdom Purpose

A prophet in the business world is deeply concerned with Kingdom purposes. Their work is not just about making money or achieving success, but about advancing God’s Kingdom in the marketplace. A prophetic business leader seeks to align their company’s mission with God’s eternal purpose, making sure that everything done in the business realm reflects Kingdom values and furthers God’s plans.

Biblical Foundation:

  • Colossians 3:23-24: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
  • Matthew 6:33: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

A prophetic business leader understands that their business is a vehicle for the Kingdom—whether through the products they create, the services they provide, or the ethical example they set. Their purpose is to reflect Christ in all aspects of their work.

Application in Business: A prophetic business leader would build their business with Kingdom values in mind. This might look like focusing on integrity, justice, service, and faithfulness in every area of the company. For example, they may prioritize fair trade practices, ensure their employees have a balanced life, and actively engage in mission work or charitable causes that advance God’s Kingdom.

Conclusion: A Prophet of the Lord in the Business Arena

A prophet of the Lord in the business world is someone who hears God’s voice, speaks truth, brings vision and direction, serves with compassion, and builds with a Kingdom purpose. They are not just leaders who focus on profits and power but individuals who prioritize God’s will, integrity, and service to others in all areas of their business.

In the business arena today, a prophetic leader stands as a beacon of truth and justice—someone who brings God’s wisdom into the marketplace, influences culture with righteousness, and leads others toward Kingdom goals. By walking in their prophetic calling, business leaders can help transform the marketplace, ensuring that every decision made, every relationship cultivated, and every action taken reflects the heart of God and advances His Kingdom on earth.

These characteristics define a lane or sphere of influence for those who feel called and described above. As a team being assembled within our ranks, I believe we are being led by the Holy Spirit into our rightful place in the Kingdom. We serve the Lord in many ways, but let’s focus on the unique role we play within MKBA. How do we fit, and what is our mission and purpose within this community?

I can feel the 5-fold government of ministry being established in our family. We are building an Apostolic Model that will be sent out from MorningStar—Prophet, Priest, and King—the embodiment of the Son, present in all the ascension gifts, which reflect the manifest wisdom of Christ Jesus, our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

One of our goals for MKBA is to train, equip, and employ. Our prophetic intercessors, prophetic worshippers, and those with prophetic gifts are leading the charge as we move into businesses and churches. We are anointed to prophesy, edify, encourage, and teach in the fullness of these gifts.

My call to action for our prophetic ministering members is this: volunteer to invest your intimacy with God, the revelatory gifts of prophecy, words of knowledge, words of wisdom, and hearts dedicated to freeing the captives and healing the brokenhearted through a word from the Lord. We are called to go into the Kingdom and be the vessels of healing and transformation.

I believe that once we gather in unity and alignment with this vision, God will send us. My expectations are high because we are fulfilling our mandate, and I trust in the power of our obedience. Send us, Lord.
